The School of Malik
MALIK B. ANAS B. MALIK B. ABU ‘AMIR Al-ASBAHI
The great grandfather: Abu ‘Amir al-Asbahi. He is said by some to have been a Companion of the Prophet, salla’llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.
The grandfather: Malik. He was one of the great Tabi‘in. He died around 100 AH. He related from ‘Umar, Talha, ‘A’isha, Abu Hurayra and Hassan ibn Thabit. He buried ‘Uthman. Malik himself was born in 93 AH at Madinah. He died in 179 AH.
He had a daughter called Fatima. His sons: Yahya, Muhammad, Hammad.
THE TEACHERS OF MALIK
Malik lived in Madinah. All the knowledge of the epoch was there. Malik related from 900 or more shaykhs (he wrote 100,000 hadith with his own hand), including Tabi‘in and Tabi‘in at-Tabi‘in like his father. He learned from the whole of the city of Madinah.
