CONFERENCE PAPERS

Shaykh Dr. Abdalqadir as-Sufi conceived of the first Maliki Fiqh conference in 1982 as a means to unify the community in the knowledge of the well-trodden path of Imam Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, the ‘amal of the people of Madina. Significant, unavoidable truths of the Deen and the state of the Ummah began to emerge from this discourse, which pointed Shaykh Dr. Abdalqadir as-Sufi and his community towards the restoring of the fallen pillar of Zakat, a ‘collected wealth tax’ on intrinsic wealth only, as commanded by Allah in Sura Tawba ayat 103:

Take Zakat from their wealth

The conferences were then hosted in various countries around the world where Shaykh Dr. Abdalqadir as-Sufi was resident at the time. In 2002 Shaykh Dr. Abdalqadir as-Sufi moved to Cape Town, South Africa where he initiated the first International Islamic Youth Conferences with the aim to establish a Muslim leadership who are prepared and engaged to navigate our times. Several of the papers from the fiqh and youth conferences appear below.
